Coffee Percolator Buying Guide: Electric, Stovetop & Filters

Choose the heat source and usable batch size first, then compare the exact model’s care instructions. A percolator cup label, stainless construction or keep-warm feature does not settle those decisions.

This guide uses checked retail identities and two manufacturer documentation examples. It includes no hands-on taste, durability or temperature test.

Three decisions before comparing prices

Write down how much you actually serve. Do not convert every nominal cup label using one universal mug size. A larger pot is not automatically suitable for every smaller batch.

If you are still deciding on the brewing method, compare moka and drip coffee makers or read the moka brewing guide.

Seven checked percolator listings

These preserve the original guide’s model choices without treating a price, star rating or sales badge as a tested ranking. The October 8 checks establish the listed model and selected options; they do not certify every retailer claim.

Presto 02811 — selected 12-Cups, Silver

The current listing and model field identify 02811. Its 12-Cups label is not twelve standard mugs.

Start here if you want to compare an electric model with a linked manufacturer manual. Match the manual revision and supplied instructions to your unit; check the minimum batch and washing restrictions.

Farberware Yosemite 50124 — selected 8 Cup, Clear Knob

The current listing’s model field is 50124, matching the manufacturer’s 8-cup Yosemite reference.

This is the stovetop example. The manufacturer’s structured specification excludes induction. Check the knob and pump-tube-spring care exceptions before treating it as fully dishwasher-safe.

Farberware FCP280 — selected 8-Cup

The checked retailer model field reads FCP280. The retail title describes automatic keep warm.

Compare this electric option when its nominal size is relevant. Obtain its own manual for actual capacity, minimum fill, cutoff behavior and care; the Presto instructions do not establish those facts for FCP280.

Farberware FCP240 — selected 4-Cup

The checked retailer model field reads FCP240, with 4-Cup selected.

Consider this nominally smaller electric option only after checking its documented batch range. Do not infer output, shorter brew time or longer service life from the smaller number.

Elite Gourmet EC724 — selected Stainless Steel

The retailer model field identifies EC724. The title calls it 12-Cup and describes a 360° swivel base.

Compare the base arrangement and permitted electrical setup if those features matter to you. The current page provides retail identity, not independent evidence of temperature stability, taste or automatic shutoff.

Elite Gourmet EC812 — selected 12-Cup

The checked retailer model field identifies EC812. Its title describes keep warm and a clear brew knob.

Treat EC812 and EC724 as separate models. Check each exact manual, selected package and retailer terms rather than transferring accessories, care rules or performance claims between them.

Mixpresso EPLTR-4MIX — selected Stainless steel 4 cup

The checked retailer model field reads EPLTR-4MIX. The selected color/variant field includes 4 cup.

Use this as another smaller electric shopping example. Confirm its actual capacity, usable fill range, voltage and parts support. No budget ranking, rating-based quality conclusion or service-life estimate is established.

An optional wraparound-filter example

The linked Presto manual names Brew Rite wraparound filters as an option. The checked Brew Rite listing is a 55-count pack of wraparound-style paper filters, ASIN B00EORXEUS. Its pack quantity differs from similarly named multi-pack offers.

First check your own basket dimensions and the filter-folding/placement instructions. A brand-and-style reference supports considering this accessory; it does not prove that this exact pack fits every brewer or that a paper filter is mandatory.

Brew Rite wraparound filters — 55 count

Checked title and package identify 55 ct Wraparound Style Filters.

Consider only if you want an optional paper filter and the dimensions and placement match your own brewer. Do not substitute a generic drip basket filter based only on its cup label.

Use two documented examples without transferring their rules

Presto 02811 manual example

The manual defines a cup as about 5 fluid ounces, permits regular or percolator grind, and makes paper filters optional. It says coffee stays hot while plugged in. Allow cooling before cleaning and keep the electrical body out of water; removable components have separate washing directions.

Farberware Yosemite 50124 example

The manufacturer lists no induction use. Its dishwasher permission excludes the knob and pump-tube spring. A limited lifetime warranty describes warranty terms, not a measured product lifespan.

Use the instructions supplied with the exact model and revision. These examples do not establish one brew time, holding duration, grind setting or vinegar recipe for all seven options.

A purchase and first-use worksheet

  1. Record the model number, selected size, heat source and manual revision.
  2. Compare your regular serving amount with documented usable capacity and minimum fill.
  3. Check which pieces may be washed separately and whether replacement parts match the model.
  4. Compare the current complete offer: selected package, seller, shipping, returns and any optional filters.
  5. If you buy, log your coffee, water fill, permitted grind and observations. Change one variable at a time within the manual’s instructions.

Keep an intact brewer that already suits your routine. This guide has no evidence that a new one necessarily tastes better or lasts longer.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an electric and a stovetop percolator?

An electric model has its own powered base or heater; a stovetop model needs an approved external heat source. Check the exact model’s instructions, usable batch range and care restrictions before choosing.

Does a 12-cup percolator make twelve standard mugs?

Do not assume that. The linked Presto 02811 manual defines a cup as about 5 fluid ounces. Other model labels need their own documentation. Compare stated capacity with your actual serving amount.

Must every percolator use coarse coffee?

No universal grind rule is established here. The linked Presto manual permits regular or percolator grind. Follow your model’s directions; an already-ground coffee cannot be made coarser by grinding it again.

Does keep warm mean automatic shutoff?

No. The linked Presto manual says coffee stays hot while the appliance remains plugged in. A retailer’s keep-warm description does not establish an automatic cutoff or a safe holding duration.

Can the Yosemite 50124 be used on induction?

The linked Farberware page lists Induction Suitable: No, although its marketing text also says any stovetop. Treat the explicit restriction as the selection limit and obtain model-specific confirmation rather than assuming compatibility.

Do I need paper filters?

They are optional in the linked Presto manual, which names Brew Rite and Melitta wraparound filters and permits 3½-inch disc filters. Confirm the exact filter dimensions and placement for your basket; this is not a universal fit claim for every percolator.
