Start with a properly brewed moka pot

Make a full pot according to your moka pot's instructions: keep water below the safety valve, fill the basket loosely with moka-suitable grounds without tamping, and use moderate heat. Each drink below uses 60 ml of finished coffee as a convenient single-serving starting point. The amount a pot produces depends on its size; do not try to brew only 60 ml in a larger pot by underfilling it.

Let the brewed coffee cool briefly before mixing with ice or cold glassware. Adjust ice, milk and dilution to taste. These are home recipe suggestions, not claims that every bean or pot gives the same strength. For grind advice, see our moka grind guide.

Jump to: classic, latte, chocolate, condensed milk, coconut, tonic, or vanilla oat.

1. Classic iced moka

One serving: 60 ml brewed moka coffee, 100–120 g ice, and up to 60 ml cold water.

Method: Add ice to a glass. Pour in the coffee after it has cooled briefly; add cold water a little at a time until the strength suits you.

A simple starting point before adding milk or sweetener.

2. Iced moka latte

One serving: 60 ml brewed moka coffee, 120 ml cold milk, and 100–120 g ice.

Method: Fill a glass with ice and milk, then slowly add the cooled coffee. Stir before drinking.

Use your preferred dairy or plant milk; flavor and texture will vary.

3. Iced chocolate moka

One serving: 60 ml brewed moka coffee, 120 ml cold milk, 10 g chocolate sauce, and 100–120 g ice.

Method: Stir the sauce into the coffee while the coffee is still warm, then let it cool briefly. Add to a glass of milk and ice.

Start with less sauce if you prefer a less sweet drink.

4. Condensed-milk iced moka

One serving: 60 ml brewed moka coffee, 15 ml sweetened condensed milk, and 100–120 g ice.

Method: Stir the condensed milk into warm coffee until it dissolves. Let it cool briefly, then pour over ice.

Vietnamese-inspired in flavor; traditional cà phê sữa đá is brewed with a phin, so this is a moka-pot variation.

5. Coconut iced moka shakerato

One serving: 60 ml cooled brewed moka coffee, 50 ml coconut milk, and a handful of ice for shaking.

Method: Put cooled coffee, coconut milk and ice into a shaker. Seal, shake briefly and strain into a glass with fresh ice.

Do not put hot liquid into a sealed shaker.

6. Iced moka tonic

One serving: 60 ml cooled brewed moka coffee, 120 ml chilled tonic water, and 100–120 g ice.

Method: Add ice and tonic to a tall glass. Slowly pour the cooled coffee over the top and stir gently if you wish.

Tonic is carbonated: never shake it in a sealed container.

7. Vanilla oat iced moka

One serving: 60 ml brewed moka coffee, 120 ml cold oat milk, 5 ml vanilla syrup if desired, and 100–120 g ice.

Method: Stir syrup into the cooled coffee if using it. Combine oat milk and ice in a glass, add coffee and stir.

Omit the syrup for a less sweet version.

Common questions

Is moka pot coffee the same as espresso?

No. A moka pot makes concentrated stovetop coffee, but it is a different brewing method from pump espresso.

Can I pour hot moka coffee directly into a cold glass?

Let the brewed coffee cool briefly first, especially before using a chilled glass or a sealed shaker. Follow the glassware and shaker instructions.

Do I need special equipment for iced moka coffee?

No. A moka pot, a suitable glass and ice are enough for the classic version. The other tools in this guide are optional.
